Traffic management operative (Watford and Mildenhall)

We are RTS and a fantastic opportunity has arisen at our expanding Rickmansworth Depot.  We are looking to recruit a further 8 Traffic Management Operatives.  Are you looking to take the next step up the career ladder?

Road Traffic Solutions are a cutting-edge traffic management company with their Head Office based in Scunthorpe and a network of depots across the UK.  We deliver high quality traffic management solutions nationwide and have depots in Essex, Scunthorpe, Birmingham, Mildenhall and Scotland.

Due to the increasing expansion of our business and specifically due to the increased requirements in the Watford area, we are seeking fully qualified Operatives.  We are very proud that we have achieved and continued to maintain our Investors in People Award to a gold standard.

We do require applicants to hold a full driving licence with no more than 3 penalty points.

Working within traffic management provides some individual challenges in relation to work pattern which is very often customer driven, however we also believe that in acknowledging what may at times be long hours with additional travel we have invested in highly competitive rates of pay which remain under review. Operatives who undertake additional sector qualifications will be rewarded via enhanced hourly rates of pay. We are passionate about delivering an exceptional service to our customers, investing in our staff and ensuring that in everything we do we maintain a focus on transparency, fairness, honesty and integrity.

In addition we have invested considerably in our transport fleet and the equipment we provide to front line personnel to ensure our staff can meet sector legislation and customer requirements in a professional manner.

As a responsible employer we do undertake at point of induction a drug test and we continue through the period of employment further random testing.

Successful applicants will work a 6 on 3 off shift rota (12 hour shifts)


£107.50-£145.00 per shift, depending on qualification’s (London Rate)

We are Road Traffic Solutions, a cutting-edge traffic management company based in Scunthorpe but with a network of cross country satellite depots delivering high quality, customer focused event management solutions to an extensive and diverse number of stakeholders.

We have provided traffic and event management to a number of prestigious clientele nationwide conducting some of the country’s largest road closed events and providing traffic management for some of the nation’s largest schemes of cabling and transportation work.

A key focus of this role is the ability to manage a team which will include though not exclusively;

  • Ensuring the team is treated fairly, honestly and transparently and fully understand their targets
  • Keeping the team adequately staffed, motivated, engaged, productive and trained as appropriate
  • Ensuring the team offer the best possible service to its customers
  • Ensuring we provide service in line with contractual KPI’s
  • Monitoring workload and communicating to other departments when necessary
  • Reporting department performance to the board of directors and other senior managers
  • Monitoring customer satisfaction and retention
  • Driving new business within the department

It is essential the successful candidate has the following attributes

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience of managing and planning mass participation events/projects.
  • Highly effective communication skills
  • Planning and negotiation skills
  • Desirable Traffic Management /Highway knowledge
  • The ability to build robust relationships both internally and externally with all key stakeholders
  • Competent IT skills and previous experience with Microsoft e.g. Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Previous experience and a proven track record in the management and development of staff.
  • A commitment to personal development via undertaking relevant training
  • The ability to manage a delegated budget and meet assigned financial targets linked to our business development plan
  • A passion for delivering a service which has quality assurance at its heart
  • An understanding of the crucial importance of leadership and its contribution within individual departments and to the success of our business as a whole

The successful candidate will be based at our Head Office, but will also be required to travel Nationwide as and when required.
