Depot Supervisor (Watford)

We are Road Traffic Solutions, a cutting-edge traffic management company based in Scunthorpe but with a network of cross country satellite depots delivering high quality, customer focused traffic management solutions to an extensive and diverse number of stakeholders.

Our work requires applicants who can respond to a fast paced and dynamic environment with an ability to plan effectively both resources and people, have excellent communication and negotiation skills with our customers and staff team, can plan and prioritise and who can demonstrate an operational understanding of the key requirements of this post. An essential requirement is significant traffic management experience and an understanding of the requirements of this sector.

A key focus of this role is the ability to supervise and manage a staff team which will include though not exclusively;

  • Named person for health and safety responsibilities within the depot
  • Stock management and oversight
  • Vehicle Management (within depot)
  • Staff deployment
  • Oversight of staff compliance to allocated tasks via vehicle tracker and the RTS bespoke
  • First line HR responsibilities – managing sickness / absence, holidays, undertaking supervised initial investigations, identifying training needs and undertaking bi annual performance reviews in co junction with the Field Operations Manager, supporting the Field Operations manager with recruitment.
  • (training will be provided but applicants must be able to demonstrate via their application form, covering letter and interview, relevant experience and skill set to meet these key responsibilities)

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate their competency in meeting the IT requirements of this post. Following considerable expansion of our business we are seeking applicants who whilst already skilled traffic management operatives can additionally undertake the management of a team of staff in line with the RTS Mission Statement and who will actively seek further delegated responsibilities.

The post will require the successful candidate to be able to offer some flexibility to their work pattern this will be negotiated with the successful applicant. The Depot is exceptionally busy inclusive of weekends and in line with our recent business review we recognise the importance of ensuring for both of our London based depots that our Depot Supervisors have a visible management presence at a weekend. The successful candidate will also be expected to have day to day oversight of the Events stock which is maintained in this depot.

As a rapidly expanding and progressive business, we are looking for a hungry, enthusiastic and dedicated applicant to add to our existing team. The successful applicant must be well organised, have good communication skills and be willing to learn. They must also be able to fit in to our existing team of varying age and experience. The successful candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Liaising with clients and councils to work out traffic management requirements
  • Recording and collating of information
  • Electronic filing of correspondence
  • Quoting, booking in, overseeing and closing down of jobs relating to your specific clients

It is essential the successful candidate has the following attributes:

  • Prolific IT skills and previous experience with Microsoft, predominately Microsoft Outlook.
  • Confident in communicating with 3rd parties via telephone as well as communicating internally with other departments

Much of the day to day tasks will use our bespoke web based application, but full training will be provided on this software. With the team developing on a daily basis and, with the business looking to expand further, applicants should be able to demonstrate the skills required above as well as being able to show initiative, great levels of common sense and be a great team player. The successful candidate will be subject to a 3 month probationary.
