Meet The Team – Liz Clarvis

26 June 2020

People are a large part of what we do here at Road Traffic Solutions. Through 2020 we wanted to take the time to introduce some of them to you in a short Meet The Team series.

Introducing: Elizabeth Clarvis (but most people call me Liz)

Nickname: Wizzy

Position within Road Traffic Solutions: Training & Development Officer

Length of time with Road Traffic Solutions: Just over 5 Years

What do you do on a day-to-day basis within your job?

My main role is ensuring our staff are qualified to the required industry standards. I also manage the day-to-day duties of our Internal Training Centre (Lantra Awards & SQA) and aside from that I help deal with general H&S and Compliance matters for the company such as Audits, Accreditations, Accident & Incident Reports, Safety Alerts etc.

What do you like about working at Road Traffic Solutions?

I genuinely learn something new every day. There is so much more to it then the general public see, from planning and council permissions to installation on site and the processes involved in that. It definitely keeps you on your toes and keeps it interesting! RTS has offered me a lot of opportunities that have helped make me the person I am today, I have been lucky enough to work in three different departments. All of these opportunities helped me meet new colleagues and understand what each of them do to support the business. As cliché as it sounds, we are like a family, which makes it a great place to work. And not just in the office, but out on the road; we get the chance to be involved in Mass-Participation Events and on every event I have done our TMO’s have been friendly and helpful making it a great experience.

What are the values that drive you?

Honesty and Integrity: I believe in owning my mistakes and ensuring I learn from them, and if I start something I intend to finish it.

How has your time at RTS been impacted by Coronavirus and the lockdown?

The lockdown has had quite a big impact on my role, mainly as we are limited with what training we can deliver as a training centre. I have been checking with our awarding bodies and the Sector Scheme Committees for the latest updates to ensure that our TMO’s can continue their work safely and I am also using this time help develop new projects within the Company and update all the company policies and procedures.

What is your favourite quote?

“Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Albus Dumbledore (technically J.K. Rowling)

What is your favourite song, film or book and why?

Song: Piano Man – Billy Joel. Film: Hocus Pocus. Book: Bird Song – Sebastian Faulks. All absolute classics!

What do you enjoy doing when you are not at work?

I enjoy spending time with my family & friends and playing the piano. We are all movie lovers in our house, so I love going to the cinema or snuggling on the sofa with my Sausage Dog (Rolo) and watching a good film.

Give a fact about yourself nobody else knows:

In 2008 I performed in the Edinburgh Fringe Festival for the entire month in a play called “Meltdown: The Ultimate TV Gameshow” where I met Jim Bowen who did a voice over for the play.
