Project – Live Outside Broadcast of Les Miserables
Road Traffic Solutions were approached by the client on 13th November, 2019 to assist with a live worldwide outside broadcast due to happen on 2nd December, 2019.
Planning had been happening between various stakeholders for some time. The client approached Road Traffic Solutions as the planning process had slowed, and with less than 3 weeks to the broadcast date there was no clear plan in place. They were concerned for the event.
Solution – After consulting with the client they specified their ideal solution but due to the time constraints we didn’t know if this was achievable. Road Traffic Solutions approached the local authority and explained that a road closure was required, even though we didn’t have the specified lead-in time.
After a discussion, the local authority agreed to the closure and Road Traffic Solutions installed advance signage, and communicated with local businesses in Soho to ensure that the short lead time had little to no detrimental effect on them.
Whilst this broadcast was from the Sondheim theatre we also worked collaboratively with another team who were refitting the Gielgud theatre at the same time, to ensure their works were removed for the duration of five days to accommodate the outside broadcast vehicles.
Parking suspensions were also required, and we had Traffic Management Operatives on site with no waiting cones and barriers to ensure that these suspensions were enforced as these were imperative to secure access and egress for the broadcast vehicles.
