Our history

Since its inception in 2004, Road Traffic Solutions have grown from strength to strength. We now boast 7 strategic locations, and the ability to service our customers on a national level in both traffic and event management.

We employ more than 150 full time team members across 7 operational depots.Having been trading for over 15 years, we have undertaken local, regional and nationally recognised works. We partner across a whole host of industries; telecoms, water, gas, electric, lifting, resurfacing and construction. Road Traffic Solutions have undertaken some of the biggest traffic management projects and road closure events in the UK: The London Marathon, Rugby World Cup, London Olympics, Ride London, The Royal Wedding, Tour of Britain, Westfield expansion project, Farringdon Crossrail, London Pride and HS2 are a handful of examples. We work with the biggest names nationally including Nationwide Platforms, Balfour Beatty, Morrisons Utilities, Cadent Gas and UK Power Networks.

2004 – Family business launches on Messingham Road, Scunthorpe; with a single depot and 5 staff in total.
2005 – East London (Barking – later Grays) depot opens as opportunities in London present themselves.
2006 – RTS moved to South Park Industrial Estate, doubling the staff in Head Office.
2007 – Another move, this time to Winterton Road, and an increase in admin. Head count now at 15 staff.
2008 – Our first big win, with National Grid, really supported the growth of the our business.
2010 – Settled in our current HQ, Oswald Road, where Road Traffic Solutions has grown to more than 50 administrative staff.
2010 – Birmingham depot opens, to service Balfour Beatty contract win, and East Midlands allows operational growth. We employed a further 30 operatives this year.
2012 – Grantham depot opens as we expand down the country.
2013 – Operations are growing again, taking the total number of employees at RTS over the 100 mark.
2014 – Sevenoaks depot opens due to growth in South London and Kent.

2014 – Road Traffic Solutions are awarded Investors in People – Silver.
2015 – Another 30 operators join the business across the country.
2016 – Mildenhall depot opens to service UK Power Networks and growth across East Anglia.
2016 – Launched REPS, our internal customer management system and client area on our website.
2016 – Rickmandsworth (later Chalfont) depot opens as event work increases in the City.
2016 – Cumbernauld (Scotland) depot opens, further supporting our relationship with Nationwide Platforms and enhancing our ability to deliver a truly national service.
2016 – Road Traffic Solutions are upgraded to Investors in People – Gold.
2017 – The fleet grows to more than 90 vehicles.
2018 – RTS now employes more than 150 full time staff, and up to 200 event marshals as required.
2019 – We hold more than 20,000 cones, 16,000 signs, 6,000 meters of barrier and 260 sets of lights. Road Traffic Solutions continues to be the leading light in road traffic and event management in the UK.
