Our Story

We have come quite a way since we began in 2004. During that time we have built on our foundation of traffic management to add in the provision of event traffic management, event stewarding, guarding services and site management. All delivered with our commitment to safe working and flawless delivery.

Over the years we have undertaken some of the UK’s largest traffic management, road closure and event traffic management programmes, including: –

The Royal Funeral; HM Queen Platinum Jubilee; The Royal Wedding; Birmingham Commonwealth Games; London Marathon; Hackney Half Marathon; Rugby World Cup; London Olympics; Farringdon Crossrail; Shepperton Studios upgrade and HS2.

We have worked on major road developments, infrastructure projects, bluechip events and key site installations.

In doing so we have worked with some of the UK’d biggest names and we are proud to say that we enjoy robust long-term partnerships with our key customers.

Training has always been important to us which is why we operate our own internal training centre and compliance team, with a regular programme of refresher training and audits designed to drive safe and secure working in every discipline.

Road Traffic Solutions Timeline

2004 – We open as a family business in Scunthorpe; with a single depot and 5 staff in total.
2005 – We opened our first London depot
2006 – Growth means a new Central Office.
2007 –We’re moving again to manage our growth.  We’re now up to 15 in the team and working hard to keep growing.
2008 – Our first really big win securing a contract with National Grid.  This contract provided a platform to grow the business.
2010 – We settled in our current HQ, Oswald Road, where Road Traffic Solutions has grown to a central team of more than 50 administrative staff across Planning, Drawing, Sales and administration.
2010 – We opened oujr Birmingham depot to service  a Balfour Beatty contract win, allowing for operational growth across the Midlands. We employed a further 30 operatives this year.
2012 – We are very proud to play a small part in the 2012 Olympics with our traffic management services.
2013 – The growth keeps coming and we now have over 100 RTS employees
2014 – Our second London depot opens to meet demand for our services                    2018 – We retain our UK Power Networks Contract                                                        2022 – Once again we have retained our partnership with UK Power Networks, a source of great pride for us                          2022 – Very proud to play a key role in HM Queen’s Platinum Jubilee                          2022 – Providing TM for the Birmingham Commonwealth Games kept us busy this summer                                                        2022 – We have the solemn privilege of supporting the Royal Funeral, working with key stakeholders to provide planning and TM services for a state occasion.

 

2014 – Road Traffic Solutions are awarded Investors in People – Silver.
2015 – Another 30 operators join the business across the country.
2016 – Mildenhall depot opens to service UK Power Networks and growth across East Anglia.
20162016 We launched our bespoke business system REPS (Reliable, Expert, Professional Services) introducing greater automation and cohesion to our services.
Our Rickmansworth (later Chalfont) depot opens as event work increases in the City.
2016 – Road Traffic Solutions are upgraded to Investors in People – Gold.
2017 – The fleet grows to more than 90 vehicles.
2018 – RTS now employes more than 150 full time staff, and up to 200 event marshals as required.
2019 – We hold more than 20,000 cones, 16,000 signs, 6,000 meters of barrier and 260 sets of lights. Road Traffic Solutions continues to be the leading light in road traffic and event management in the UK.
2020 In a year when everything changed, RTS continued providing expert Traffic Management services, working throughout as Key Workers right the way through all the turmoil.
And in the middle of all that we launched our Total Solutions services, providing the complete site solution to our clients. From office accommodation, welfare facilities and storage right the way through to complete utilities services, security and access solutions to heavy plant hire, RTS Total Solutions was introduced to provide a turn key solution.
2021 Building on our years of event management experience RTS launched Total Event Solutions bring in the vastly experienced Meryl Dennis to lead our event offering.
2022The RTS story continues with significant upgrade programmes for our Chalfont and Grays depots, a new Rochester based depot and Total Events Solutions office.
