Our Story

We have come quite a way since we began in 2004. During that time we have built on our foundation of traffic management to add in the provision of event traffic management, event stewarding, guarding services and site setup and management. All delivered with our commitment to safe working and flawless delivery.

Over the years we have undertaken some of the UK’s largest traffic management programmes, providing our traffic management and stewarding services to prestigious and historic special events and large scale infrastructure projects. These include:-

Over the last 20 years, we have worked across a vast array of industries and, in doing so, have amassed an extensive and unbeatable level of knowledge and experience to service all of our clients needs. With health and safety at the core of everything that we do, regular training and auditing of our processes and deliveries ensure that we are always ready to deliver our flawless service with precision and expertise.

Road Traffic Solutions Timeline

2004  We open as a family business in Scunthorpe; with a single depot and 5 staff in total.

2005  We opened our first London depot.

2006  Growth means a new Central Office.

2007 We’re moving again to manage our growth.  We’re now up to 15 in the team and working hard to keep growing.

2008  Our first really big win securing a contract with National Grid.  This contract provided a platform to grow the business.

2010  We settled in to our current HQ, Oswald Road, where Road Traffic Solutions has grown to a central team of more than 50 administrative staff across Operations, Planning, Drawing, Sales and Administration.

2010  We opened our Birmingham depot to service a Balfour Beatty contract win, allowing for operational growth across the Midlands. We employed a further 30 operatives this year.

2012  We are very proud to play our part in the 2012 Olympics with our traffic management services for all of the road events.

2013  The growth keeps coming and we now have over 100 RTS employees.

2014 – Our 10th birthday! And a second London depot opens to meet demand for our services.

2014 – Le Tour De France brings the Grand Depart to the UK. We, once again, provide our services to another internationally renowned, televised event!

2016 – We launched our bespoke business system REPS (Reliable, Expert, Professional Services) introducing greater automation and cohesion to our services.

2016 – Mildenhall depot opens to service UK Power Networks and growth across East Anglia.

2017 – The fleet grows to more than 90 vehicles.

2017 – IAAF World Athletics Championships are held in London and we are back on the world stage closing central London for the road events.

2018 – We retain our UK Power Networks Contract.

2020 – Total Solutions is launched! Providing a turnkey solution to our clients with everything from site office accommodation, storage and welfare facilities, power and water solutions, right the way through to security and plant hire.

2020 – A global pandemic! Lockdowns and social distancing changes the world as we know it! As key workers we were still busy throughout, with infrastructure projects being quickly progressed due to the quieter roads. We were also helping with covid testing sites and, with Brexit rules coming into force in the new year, sites were installed at motorway service stations across the UK for EU haulier information and covid testing.

2021 – Building on our years of event management experience, RTS launch Total Event Solutions and bring in the vastly experienced Meryl Dennis to lead our security and stewarding event offering.

2022 – Once again we have retained our partnership with UK Power Networks, a source of great pride for us.

2022 – The RTS story continues with significant upgrade programmes for our Chalfont and Grays depots, a new Maidstone depot and the Total Events Solutions team move into a new office.

2022 – Very proud to play a key role in HM Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

2022 – Providing TM for the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games also kept us busy this summer!

2022 – We have the solemn privilege of supporting the State Funeral, working with key stakeholders to provide planning and Traffic Management services for a state occasion, delivered with immediate notice and without flaw!

2023 – Another busy year which included delivering our services to the Coronation of King Charles III and the UCI Cycling World Championships in Scotland.

2024 – Our 20th Birthday! A great achievement for any business which wouldn’t have been possible without our dedicated employees and our strong, healthy relationships with all of our clients. Thank you!
