Hackney Half Marathon - Road Traffic Solutions

Hackney Half Marathon

In partnership with Virgin Sport, Road Traffic Solutions supported what has become the UK’s largest outdoor fitness festival over three days in May. Both Virgin & RTS are looking forward to the 2022 event!

Project – Road Traffic Solutions are proud to have worked alongside the Hackney Half Marathon team for over half a decade now. What has become the UK’s largest outdoor fitness festival consists of a multitude of sports and fitness activities which span over 3 days. They include the Hackney 5K, the Hackney Half and over 72 fitness activities on Hackney Marshes; with everything from stand-up paddle boarding on the Hackney canals to yoga and meditation with a live orchestra.

The iconic half marathon event which takes place on the Sunday morning explores this vast borough passing through Dalston, Hackney Downs, Haggerston, Hackney Wick and brushing the edge of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

As the Virgin brand suggests, this event pushes the boundaries in terms of innovation with notable touches such as 100% recyclable plastic bottles and a free 5k on the Saturday aimed at ‘getting the community moving’.

Solution – Road Traffic Solutions, alongside the client and local authority, have developed a comprehensive Traffic Management plan which takes on board the many challenges of an inner London Borough.

We work very closely with the course and stewarding teams with the Road Traffic Solutions CAD Traffic Management plans being the primary source of information. This results in the TM plans being of upmost importance, they must be clear and concise while still withholding the immense detail required from the various parties.

It’s absolutely vital that the clearing and reopening process for the event is executed safely but in a timely manner to ensure there’s no unnecessary disturbance to the public and the road network in this bubbly and engaging area.

Feedback – The client fed back to us; “I just wanted to pass on my huge thanks to you and your whole team. I can’t thank you all enough for your efforts in playing a major role in helping us successfully deliver such an incredible event on Sunday. If you have any means, please do pass on our thanks to all of your staff that worked the event on Sunday.

The road closure, security and stewarding operation was all very smooth. I was very satisfied with the way everything all operated. Date for 2020 is 17th May – so get this in your diary!”
